I also think fanfiction can be a useful part of a writer’s journey. I’ve played Warhammer games for decades–Warhammer Fantasy, 40K, Blood Bowl, Mordheim, Necromunda, Shadespire, you name it–and I even ran a Games Workshop in NYC for a handful of years. After that much immersion, it was inevitable that I’d write some stories inspired by those worlds. None use any outright names, but if you’ve played the games, especially older editions, you’ll probably see the same things while reading as I did when writing.
